That time Roger Glover got pissed off when I mentioned how loud Deep Purple was

Most rock freaks as old as me remember back to 1985 when Deep Purple had reunited its classic Mark II lineup and was headed out on tour behind its Perfect Strangers album.

When the band set its sights on Vancouver I was pretty psyched about getting the chance to interview Roger Glover–and not just because he played bass on “Smoke On the Water”.

It was more because he played bass on “Highway Star”.

At any rate, I was keen to have a chat with the dude, but I don’t think the feeling was mutual. It sounded to me like Glover was sick of doing interviews and getting asked the same questions about the reunion over and over again.

He definitely wasn’t too thrilled when I brought up how the group had once been declared the loudest band in the world by The Guinness Book of World Records.

Have a listen:

  1. I think the official “loudest band in the world” measurement was taken during the Come Taste the Band tour when Hughes, Coverdale and Bolin were in the group, although they had been labeled that by the media and introduced as such on the Live in London CD from the Burn tour.
