I did my first interview with American rock legend John Fogerty back in August of 1997, when he was touring behind his fifth solo studio album, Blue Moon Swamp.

Two nights earlier he’d performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, so at one point in the conversation I asked him if he liked doing TV.

A couple of months before that on The Late Show with David Letterman, Letterman had broke with tradition and invited Fogerty back for the second night in a row, when he’d delivered a raucous version of his Creedence Clearwater Revival classic, “Fortunate Son”.

I’ve always adored everything about that anti-war song from 1969–I mean, to me it’s right up there with “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”–so I asked Fogerty if it was one of his favourites as well.
