FRIDAY: the Burnaby Halloween Festival presents In Praise of Nightmares, featuring screenings at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts of the seminal 1920s silent films Un Chien Andalou and Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, with live musical accompaniment.

FRIDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents roots trio the Good Lovelies–composed of singers and songwriters Kerri Ough, Sue Passmore, and Caroline Marie Brooks–at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James. SOLD OUT. Snooze ya lose.

Girls Gotta Eat at the Vogue

FRIDAY: Just for Laughs presents the Girls Gotta Eat Snack City Tour, featuring comedy podcasters Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine, at the Vogue Theatre.

FRIDAY:  Vancouver-based Grateful Dead tribute band GDBC plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Buddy and The Scarecrow!

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Cirque du Soleil presents its production of Kooza, a 125-minute acrobatics/circus show exploring themes of fear, identity, recognition, and power. Running until December 31 under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place.

Chucky’s at the Rio

SATURDAY: Halloween Horror at the Drive-in features screenings of Halloween and Halloween II at Langley’s Twilight Drive-in, Metro Vancouver’s only remaining drive-on movie theatre.

SATURDAY: American rock legends the Doobie Brothers–featuring guitarist-vocalists Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons, and keyboardist-vocalist Michael McDonald–play Abbotsford Centre. Here’s my interview with Tom Johnston from 1991.

Parade of Lost Souls in East Van

SATURDAY: the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret present the annual Parade of Lost Souls, a Halloween-themed community event that blends performance art, live music, dance, and wildly inventive costumes. Hourly parades start at the Britannia Community Centre at 6:30 (kids), 7:30, and 8:30 pm, with 19+ afterparty at the WISE Hall.

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the New York Rangers in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
