Chelsea Hotel runs at the Firehall

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until April 1 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

TUESDAY: Jamaican reggae-pop artists Damian “Jr Gong” Marley and Stephen Marley perform a curated set list of both brothers’ catalogs and a medley of their father Bob Marley’s classics at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The Penguins are in town

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen is a fusion of music, dance, and drama at the Firehall Arts Centre celebrating the life and work of the legendary Canadian poet and singer-songwriter.

THURSDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the L.A. Kings in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

Bill Coon plays Frankie’s Jazz

THURSDAY: the Bill Coon Quartet–featuring guitarist Bill Coon, saxophonist Campbell Ryga, acoustic bassist Conrad Good, and drummer Joe Poole–performs originals, standards, and music by Bill Evans at Frankie’s Jazz.

FRIDAY: Italian classical guitarist Aniello Desiderio joins the Vancouver Symphony for a program that includes Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: Canadian rock greats Chilliwack (“Fly at Night”), featuring singer-guitarist Bill Henderson, play the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver.

Cannery Row plays Guilt and Co.

FRIDAY: Vancouver roots trio Cannery Row–composed of fiddler/accordionist Gary Comeau, guitarist Tim Hearsey and drummer Chris Nordquist–blends blues, Latin, zydeco, jazz, cajun, country, and rock ‘n’ roll at Guilt and Co.
