Witnessing Genocide in Palestine at Massey Arts Society

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

TUESDAY: UBC Public Humanities presents a roundtable discussion on the theme Witnessing Genocide in Palestine, with scholars Brenna Bhandar, Adel Iskander, Jasbir K. Puar, and André Elias Mazawi, at Massey Arts Society.

Korpiklaani plays the Rickshaw

TUESDAY: Finnish folk-metal band Korpiklaani plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Visions of Atlantis and Illumishades.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

WEDNESDAY: Booker Prize-winning author Michael Ondaatje reads from his latest book of poetry, A Year of Last Things, at Vancouver Public Library.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: through videos, photographs, testimonies, song lyrics, and reflections, the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia offers an account of infamous feminist art collective Pussy Riot’s non-violent actions, running until June 2 at the Polygon Gallery.

The Predators are in town

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Nashville Predators in Round One of the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup Playoffs at Rogers Arena.

FRIDAY: musical director Otto Tausk leads the Vancouver Symphony, violinist Paul Huang, and the Elektra Women’s Choir in a program of works by Dmitri Shostakovich, John Adams, and BC composer Nicholas Ryan Kelly at the Orpheum Theatre. Here’s my interview with Otto Tausk from 2021.
