FRIDAY: the B.C. Lions take on the Edmonton Elks in a Canadian Football League preseason game at BC Place.

FRIDAY: Victoria power-metal quintet Unleash the Archers performs tunes from its new album Phantoma at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Gross Misconduct and HyperiaSOLD OUT.

Zappostrophe’ plays the Fox Cabaret

FRIDAY: eight-piece Vancouver band Zappostrophe’ celebrates the music of Frank Zappa at the Fox Cabaret.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Tri-City Dust Devils in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

Velvet Terrorism at Polygon Gallery

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: through videos, photographs, testimonies, song lyrics, and reflections, the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia offers an account of infamous feminist art collective Pussy Riot’s non-violent actions, running until June 9 at the Polygon Gallery.

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.

SATURDAY: Day of Music is a full day of free musical performances at various Vancouver locations, culminating in an evening performance at the Orpheum Theatre by the Otto Tausk-led Vancouver Symphony of selections from Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (‘New World’).
