MONDAY TO THURSDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham’s new animated family adventure-comedy, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
MONDAY TO TUESDAY & THURSDAY TO FRIDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
MONDAY TO TUESDAY & FRIDAY: Cirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.
Festival of Lights at VanDusen Gardens
MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden runs until January 5, featuring 15 acres of beautiful gardens adorned with over a million Christmas lights.
TUESDAY: Paul Anthony’s Talent Time presents a New Year’s Eve variety show at the Rio Theatre featuring comedian Ryan Bell, twin violinists Audrey and Ashlyn, and one-man electronic band McRorie.
TUESDAY: New Year’s Eve at Green Auto features performances by local bands Buck Nothin, Roundelays, Lincoln Hotchen, Tonk, Lilex, Worrywart, and Hoddie Browns.
Soulstream plays the Vogue
TUESDAY: local 10-piece soul-funk band Soulstream plays a New Year’s Eve gig at the Vogue Theatre.
TUESDAY: New Year’s Eve screening at the VIFF Centre of the Coen Brothers’ 1998 comedy The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges as The Dude. Come dressed as your favourite character; white russians available as an add-on with tickets.
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: The Lind Biennial, running until February 2 at Polygon Gallery, is a showcase of new work by the finalists of the Philip B. Lind Prize for Emerging Artists. Exhibiting artists include Mena El Shazly, Karice Mitchell, Dion Smith-Dokkie, Parumveer Walia, and Casey Wei.
