Neko Case speaks at Performance Works

MONDAY: singer, songwriter, producer, visual artist, and writer Neko Case discusses her memoir The Harder I Fight the More I Love You in a conversation with local author and musician Aaron Chapman at Performance Works on Granville Island.

MONDAY TO THURSDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, a new documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báezorganized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Wonderful Joe runs at the Cultch

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: performances at the Cultch Historic Theatre until February 23 of Toronto puppeteer Ronnie Burkett’s Wonderful Joe, about a man and his dog who head into the world for one last grand adventure together.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: performances of the dark comedy Heathers: The Musical, based on the 1988 film about a trio of popular girls who mercilessly rule their high school, running until February 16 at Langara College’s Studio 58.

THURSDAY: Vancouver hardcore, metal, and punk bands Scalding, Luella, Gadfly, and Smoked play a Gaza Emergency Benefit at Green Auto, with all  proceeds going to support organizations that directly benefit children in Gaza.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats play Rogers Arena

THURSDAY: Americana/soul-rock band Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats performs tunes from latest album South of Here at Rogers Arena, with guest Charlie Crockett.

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Just for Laughs Vancouver is a comedy festival running from February 13 to 23 at various Vancouver venues, featuring standup comedians such as Roy Wood Jr., Tim Dillon, Margaret Cho, Jerry Seinfeld, and Harland Williams. Here’s my interview with Roy Wood Jr. from 2022.

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: Canadian indie-folk singer-songwriter Leif Vollebekk performs tunes from latest album Revelation at the Pearl, with guest Reuben Bullock.
