I interviewed 23-year-old blues vocalist Shemekia Copeland, daughter of blues-guitar great Johnny Copeland, back in September of 2002, when she was touring behind her third album, the Dr. John-produced Talking to Strangers.

The previous year her second album, Wicked, had been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category, so I asked her if she was disappointed that she didn’t win.
