TUESDAY: Swedish garage-rock band the Hives plays tunes from new album The Hives Forever Forever the Hives at the Commodore Ballroom.

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps play Forge FC in a Canadian Premier League semi-final soccer game at BC Place.

TUESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Amy Berg‘s new music documentary It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, about the American singer-songwriter who died tragically at the age of 30 after recording one highly acclaimed album.

Scott Smith plays the Painted Ship

WEDNESDAY: Vancouver pedal-steel guitarist Scott Smith is joined by his band and an array of guest vocalists in a celebration of the twangy Bakersfield sound at the Painted Ship.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAYStar Witnesses, running at the Polygon Gallery until September 28, assembles works by 11 artists whose observations of the cosmos bring new understandings of exploratory and migratory movements on Planet Earth.

THURSDAY: New Jersey prog-metal band Symphony X plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with power metal guests Sonata Arctica from Finland.

Leeroy Stagger plays Bez Arts Hub

FRIDAY: Victoria roots troubadour Leeroy Stagger performs material from his latest album 3 AM Revelations at Langley’s Bez Arts Hub. Here’s my interview with Leeroy Stagger from 2005.

FRIDAY: Vancouver ska-rock band from the ’90s, Jazzberry Ram, plays the Fox Cabaret, with guests Focus Your Audio and Scarlet Fever.
