MONDAY: screening at the Cinematheque of Face/Off director John Woo‘s 1992 action-thriller Hard Boiled, starring Chow Yun-fat as a vengeful Hong Kong cop on the trail of a vicious gangster.

TUESDAY: British indie-rock quintet High Vis plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Cold Gawd, A Mourning Star, and Juice.

TUESDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of  The Toxic Avenger, writer-director Macon Blair’s new reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s campy 1984 splatter-comedy about a horrible toxic accident that transforms a downtrodden janitor into a new kind of hero.

The Who plays Rogers Arena

TUESDAY: British rock legends The Who, featuring guitarist Pete Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey, perform at Rogers Arena on their final farewell tour. Here’s my review of the Who from 1996.

FRIDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of a 4K restoration of Polish director Ryszard Bugajski’s 1991 environmental thriller Clearcut, starring the late Graham Greene as a militant Indigenous activist on a rampage against a mill encroaching on his people’s land.
