FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, starring scream queen Marilyn Burns and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface.
FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in National Hockey League preseason action at Rogers Arena.
FRIDAY: Vancouver singer-songwriter Dan Mangan performs at the Vogue Theatre on his Natural Light Tour, with guest Bells Larson.
Fright Nights on the PNE Grounds
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, runs until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver International Film Festival, running until October 12, features films from around the world, live performances, talks, and industry sessions at various Vancouver venues.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: conductor Stuart Chafetz leads the Vancouver Symphony and vocalists Aaron Finley and Brook Wood in the Music of Phil Collins & Genesis at the Orpheum Theatre.
The Stampeders are in town
SATURDAY: the BC Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.
SATURDAY: Vancouver alt-rock band Econoline Crush, featuring original vocalist Trevor Hurst, plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Crystal Pistol and Bad Mny.
SUNDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.
SUNDAY: An Evening With Marc Maron at the Rio Theatre features a screening of a documentary about the American comedian and podcaster, Are We Good?, followed by a live talk and audience Q&A.
