That time Alice Cooper told me why the original Alice Cooper Band broke up

By Steve Newton

I always thought the original Alice Cooper Band–Alice on vocals, with guitarists Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith–was one of the best damn rock bands ever assembled.

The songs they recorded on albums like Love it to Death, Killer, and Billion Dollar Babies were guitar-rock masterpieces in my books.

When I did my fourth interview with the Coop, back in August of 1999, I told him that I liked him best when he had the old band together, which led him to explain why that lineup officially split up in 1975.
