I always thought the original Alice Cooper Band–Alice on vocals, with guitarists Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith–was one of the best damn rock bands ever assembled.
The songs they recorded on albums like Love it to Death, Killer, and Billion Dollar Babies were guitar-rock masterpieces in my books.
When I did my fourth interview with the Coop, back in August of 1999, I told him that I liked him best when he had the old band together, which led him to explain why that lineup officially split up in 1975.

I actually have to respectfully disagree. Don’t get me wrong, the original band were good but they were limited players which is why outside of Alice himself (the most talented member of the band), the others really didn’t join other bands or have any success. Alice, the solo artist has been solo since 75 and has put out many many great albums and songs and is still a terrific live act.
