MONDAY: the red-hot Vancouver Canucks take on the Chicago Blackhawks in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

MONDAY: Vancouver blues-rock quartet Terminal Station, featuring singer-guitarist Scott Smith, plays tunes from latest album Brotherhood at Guilt and Co. Here’s my interview with Scott Smith from 2020.

Sunny War plays the Fox Cabaret

MONDAY: Nashville-based blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Sunny War performs tunes from latest album, Anarchist Gospel, at the Fox Cabaret.

MONDAY, TUESDAY & THURSDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of director Thomas von Steinaecker’s 2022 documentary Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer, about the charismatic German filmmaker. In English and German with English subtitles.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until March of 2024 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival features innovative theatre, dance, music, mixed-media, circus, and installations at various Vancouver venues until February 4.

Mean Girls runs at the Queen E

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: Broadway Across Canada presents performances of Mean Girlsthe hit musical written by Tina Fey of TV’s Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

WEDNESDAY: folk singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Big Rapids, Michigan, May Erlewine, plays the Fox Cabaret, with guests Noah Derksen and R.O. Shapiro.

WEDNESDAY: the red-hot Vancouver Canucks take on the St. Louis Blues in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

THURSDAY: Mashed Poetics is a music and spoken-word mash-up show at Vivace on the Drive in which 10 poets will perform new poems based on a song from Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album, with music provided by cover band the Wet Slippers.

Minnie Marks plays Massey Theatre

THURSDAY: International Guitar Night at New Westminster’s Massey Theatre features performances by Italy’s Luca Sticagnoli, Vietnam’s Thu Le, Brazil’s Marco Pereira, and Australia’s Minnie Marks.

THURSDAY: Indiana indie/garage-rock band Frankie and the Witch Fingers plays the Pearl, with guests Heavy Trip and Doom Cocoon.

FRIDAY: guest conductor Nicolas Ellis leads the Vancouver Symphony and Macedonian pianist Simon Trpceski in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto.

FRIDAY: B.C. premiere screening at the Rio Theatre of writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wiseau’s 2023 horror-comedy Big Shark, with special introduction by Greg Sestero, co-star of Wiseau’s 2003 cult phenom The Room.

Wes Barker performs at the Biltmore

FRIDAY: comedic stunt magician and YouTuber Wes Barker performs at the Biltmore Cabaret.

FRIDAY: Comedy Here Often? presents standup comedy by Arash NarchiRobert PengGina Harms, and headliner Cassidy Anhorn at 604 Studios.

FRIDAY: the Snowed in Comedy Tour features standup comedy by Erica Sigurdson, Pete Zedlacher, Dan Quinn, andPaul Myrehaug at the Vogue Theatre.

Misery screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Rob Reiner’s 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel Misery, starring James Caan and Kathy Bates.
