MONDAY: British and Canadian pop singer-songwriters Nick Lowe and Ron Sexsmith perform on a double bill at the Commodore Ballroom. Here’s my interview with Ron Sexsmith from 1997.

MONDAY: Toronto alt-country/rock ‘n’ roll band the Sadies play the Pearl, with guests the Bad Beats.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

WEDNESDAY: 25th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of a 4K restoration of German director Tom Twyker’s hyperkinetic action thriller Run Lola Run.

Cirque Alphonse at the Cultch

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Québec’s Cirque Alphonse presents its show Barbu, which delves into the birth of the circus in Montréal at the turn of the 20th century, at the Cultch.

THURSDAY: The Path Forward is a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day featuring performances by the Vancouver Symphony in collaboration with Indigenous artists and musicians from the Coast Salish Territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations at the Orpheum Theatre.

FRIDAY: British punk-rockers from the ’70s, the Damned, play the Commodore Ballroom, with guests the Avengers. SOLD OUT.

FRIDAY: the first of four Save the WISE fundraising concerts features performances at the WISE Hall by Alien Boys, Slip-Ons, Rogue Villains, and Leo D.E. Johnson.

Repo Man screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night 40th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of director Alex Cox’s low-budget cult hit Repo Man, about a slacker-punk recruited by a car repo agency who finds himself in pursuit of a Chevrolet Malibu with a $20,000 bounty.
