FRIDAY: British punk-rockers from the ’70s, the Damned, play the Commodore Ballroom, with guests the Avengers. SOLD OUT.

FRIDAY: the first of four Save the WISE fundraising concerts features performances at the WISE Hall by Alien Boys, Slip-Ons, Rogue Villains, and Leo D.E. Johnson.

FRIDAY: late-night 40th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of director Alex Cox’s low-budget cult hit Repo Man, about a slacker-punk recruited by a car repo agency who finds himself in pursuit of a Chevrolet Malibu with a $20,000 bounty.

Cirque Alphonse at the Cultch

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Québec’s Cirque Alphonse presents its show Barbu, which delves into the birth of the circus in Montréal at the turn of the 20th century, at the Cultch.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Bison plays the Rickshaw

SATURDAY: the first day of the Rickshaw Theatre 15th Anniversary celebration features performances by Bison, Black Wizard, Rong, and Pet Blessings at the Rickshaw Theatre.

SATURDAY: the B.C. Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders in Canadian Football League action at BC Place, with pregame concert by American gangsta rapper 50 Cent.

SATURDAY: the Truck Stop Concert Series at Red Truck Brewery features performances by Daniel Wesley, the Boom Booms, LowDown Brass Band, Big Easy Funk Ensemble, and Zada.

SUNDAY: Coyote vs. Road Runner and other Looney Toons at the Cinematheque features cartoons from the 1940s and ’50s directed by Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett.
