FRIDAY: screening at the Cinematheque of director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1945 psychological thriller Spellbound, starring Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: writer-director Oz Perkins’s Vancouver-shot horror-thriller Longlegs, about an FBI agent (Maika Monroe) on the trail of a serial killer (Nicolas Cage). runs at various Metro Vancouver theatres.

Ring of Fire runs at Granville Island Stage

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, running until August 11 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.

The Roughriders are in town

SATURDAY: the B.C. Lions take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.

SATURDAY: Vancouver rockers Star Collector play the Fox Cabaret, with guests Tranzmitors and Los Gatitos.

SATURDAY: Theatre Under the Stars presents performances in Stanley Park of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black movie, with pre-show performances from School of Rock Vancouver.

The VSO plays Deer Lake Park

SATURDAY: Symphony in the Park features the Vancouver Symphony performing works by Bizet, Copland, Mozart, Sibelius, Smetana, and Dvořák outside at Burnaby’s Deer Lake Park.

SUNDAY: the Happiest Big Band on Earth is an 18-piece big band performing Disney and Pixar classics at the Pearl.
