FRIDAY: Vancouver rock quartet Slightest Clue plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Mother Sun, Farhaven, and Passion Mango.
FRIDAY: American singer-songwriters the White Buffalo and Shawn James play a coheadlining bill at the Hollywood Theatre as part of their Tale of Two Guns Tour.

Waxahatchee plays the Orpheum
FRIDAY: Brooklyn-based indie-roots band Waxahatchee, featuring frontwoman Katie Crutchfield, plays the Orpheum Theatre, with guests Woods.
FRIDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, an extensively reconstructed version of director Tinto Brass’s notorious 1980 historical epic, starring Malcolm McDowell as the titular power-crazed and debaucherous emperor who helped usher in the downfall of Rome.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash is featured in Ring of Fire, a theatrical concert created by Richard Maltby, Jr. that delves into the heart of Cash’s music, held over until August 25 at the Arts Club Theatre’s Granville Island Stage.

Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis at Polygon Gallery
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis is an exhibition of 17 self-portraits by photographer Martine Gutierrez, running until September 29 at the Polygon Gallery.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: True Tribal: Contemporary Expressions of Ancestral Tattoo Practices explores 30-plus years of Indigenous tattooing from around the world and showcases the artists who are reconnecting with traditional skin-marking practices, at the Museum of Vancouver.
FRIDAY & SUNDAY: Theatre Under the Stars presents a performance in Stanley Park of the musical School of Rock, based on the 2003 Jack Black movie, with pre-show performances from School of Rock Vancouver.

Stop Making Sense screens at VIFF Centre
SATURDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of a recently upgraded 4K version of director Jonathan Demme’s 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, starring Talking Heads.
SATURDAY: the Truck Stop Concert Series at Red Truck Brewing features performances by Trey Lewis, Logan Mize, Shaela Miller, Kendra Kay, and Mark Ledlin.
SATURDAY: Canadian rock legend Burton Cummings (the Guess Who) performs with his current band at the Pacific Coliseum as part of the PNE’s Summer Night Concerts series, with guest Colin James.

The PNE kicks off its 2024 season
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: the 2024 PNE Fair runs until September 2, featuring numerous exhibits, attractions, and entertainment, including the SuperDogs, Dueling Pianos, agriculture displays, drag show, cooking demonstrations, musical performances, and rides such as the newly launched rollercoaster, ThunderVolt. Note: closed August 19 and 26.
SUNDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director Robert Aldrich’s 1962 horror classic What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.
SUNDAY: the BC Lions take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.

SUNDAY: Comedy Bang! Bang! at the Vogue Theatre features comedy by Scott Aukerman, Paul F. Tompkins, and the CBB Allstars.
