FRIDAY: Vancouver’s Cousin Harley and Calgary’s Ramblin’ Ambassadors join forces to perform A Tribute to Ray Condo at the Rickshaw Theatre, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the passing of the Canadian western swing and rockabilly musician. Here’s the interviews I did with the Ramblin’ Ambassadors’ Brent J. Cooper in 2003 and Cousin Harley’s Paul Pigat in 2021.
FRIDAY: the BC Lions take on the Toronto Argonauts in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.
FRIDAY: the Eclectic Collective presents an opening night of Juxtaposed, an exhibition of diverse creations by Paul Hyde (from the Payola$), Kat McPhee, David Patterson, Catherine St. Germain, and Jim Davidson, running to September 25 at White Rock’s Landmark Pop Uptown Gallery. Friday the 13th Part III screens at the Rio
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Steve Minor’s 1982 slasher flick Friday the 13th Part III in 3D, the one where Jason Vorhees squeezes some poor sap’s head so hard that his eyeball flies right out atcha!
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Fringe Festival runs until September 15 on Granville Island, featuring an eclectic program of over 65 shows that span the likes of theatre, dance, spoken word, comedy, opera, and improv. Highlights include Michaela Chung’s Daddy Issues, Charla Hathaway’s Naked at my Age, and Holly M. Brinkman’s A Woman’s Guide to Peeing Outside.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Arts Club Theatre presents performances at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage of Jersey Boys, a musical that tells the story of New Jersey hitmakers Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Odds play the Barnside Harvest Fest
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the three-day Barnside Harvest Festival at Paterson Park in Ladner features headline performances by the Glorious Sons, (Fri.), the Sam Roberts Band (Sat.), and Loverboy (Sun.). Other performers include the Trews, Yukon Blonde, Sloan, Toque, Wide Mouth Mason (featuring guitar great Shaun Verreault), and Odds.
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.
SATURDAY: British comedian Eric Idle, former member of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, performs at the Vogue Theatre as part of his Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Live! Tour.

SUNDAY: the annual Terry Fox Run takes place at various Metro Vancouver locations and raises funds for cancer research in the name of heroic Canadian athlete and cancer-research activist Terry Fox.
