
The new Hip doc screens at VIFF

FRIDAY: the B.C. Lions take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Anti-Icon: Apokalypsis is an exhibition of 17 self-portraits by photographer Martine Gutierrez, running until September 29 at the Polygon Gallery.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own, running until January 2025 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features approximately 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, the most comprehensive holdings of her work in the world.

Presence screens at the Rio as part of VIFF
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver International Film Festival, running to October 6 at various Vancouver venues, features screenings, live performances, talks, industry sessions, and other events celebrating film and film culture. Famed director Steven Soderbergh’s new horror film Presence screens at the Rio Theatre on Friday.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Arts Club Theatre presents performances at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage until October 20 of Jersey Boys, a musical that tells the story of New Jersey hitmakers Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
SATURDAY: Vancouver-based Grateful Dead tribute band GDBC plays the Rickshaw Theatre.

Ruby Waters plays the Commodore
SATURDAY: Canadian folk-pop singer-songwriter Ruby Waters plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guest Slim Krusty.
SATURDAY: the first two episodes of the four-part documentary The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal will be screened at the Vancouver Playhouse as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival, with director Mike Downie and the Tragically Hip members in attendance.
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.
