Back in 1990 I interviewed American makeup-FX icon Tom Savini, who first made a name for himself in the ’80s crafting gory deaths for slasher flicks like Friday the 13th, Maniac, The Prowler, and Alone in the Dark.
At the time Savini had moved behind the camera and was promoting his feature-film directorial debut, a remake of George Romero’s 1968 zombie classic Night of the Living Dead.
So we talked about his experiences making the film, his thoughts on Romero’s original, and how his work with prosthetic makeup may have been influenced by his time as a combat photographer in Vietnam.
