
BC/DC plays the Hollywood Theatre

FRIDAY: El Paso, Texas alt-rock band Sparta, featuring former At the Drive-in member Jim Ward, plays the Pearl, with guests Precursor and Down the Lees.
FRIDAY: Texas indie-pop band Wild Child and South Carolina indie-rock act Susto play a coheadlining bill at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guest Judy Blank.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Bif Naked plays the Grey Cup Festival
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Grey Cup Festival features weekend concerts at various Vancouver venues by Bif Naked, the Sam Roberts Band, the Trews, Dear Rouge, and Chad Brownlee, culminating in the 111th Grey Cup game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts at BC Place.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Cirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the four-day Eastside Culture Crawl sees more than 50 artists on Vancouver’s Eastside–painters, jewellers, sculptors, furniture makers, weavers, potters, printmakers, photographers, and glassblowers–opening their studios to the public.

The Blackhawks are in town
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Chicago Blackhawks in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
SATURDAY: Chicago punk-rock band Rise Against plays the Harbour Event Centre, with guests L.S. Dunes and Cloud Nothings.
SATURDAY: AC/DC tribute band BC/DC, featuring vocalist Brian “Bon” Johnscottson, plays the Hollywood Theatre.

Fight Club screens at VIFF Centre
SUNDAY: 25th anniversary screening at VIFF Centre of David Fincher’s bruising black comedy Fight Club, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk.
