MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden runs until January 5, featuring 15 acres of beautiful gardens adorned with over a million Christmas lights.

MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

TUESDAY: Choir! Choir! Choir! presents Un-Silent Night: Holiday Sing-Along at the Commodore Ballroom.

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the St. Louis Blues in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

Emmett Jerome plays Guilt and Co.

TUESDAY: blues and roots trio Emmett Jerome & Hollywood Alberta, featuring singer-guitarist Emmett Jerome, plays Guilt and Co.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol is an uplifting musical based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol set during the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, running until December 24 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Ann Mortifee’s Reflections on Crooked Walking, running until December 22 at the Firehall Arts Centre, is a family musical about four unlikely friends who go in search of a cure for a sleeping sickness that has overtaken their town.

WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: Cirque du Soleil‘s Echo, running to January 5 at Concord Pacific Place, combines poetry, stagecraft, acrobatics, and technology to explores the delicate balance between people, animals, and the world.

THURSDAY: Pennsylvania alt-metal trio CKY, aka Camp Kill Yourself, performs at the Rickshaw Theatre on its New Reason to Dream Tour, with guests Hawking and the Fomites.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter screens at the Rio

THURSDAY: late-night 40th-anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of director Joseph Zito’s slasher flick Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, starring Corey Feldman and featuring Ted White as Jason Vorhees.

THURSDAY: YVR Sounds 4, a showcase of up-and-coming Vancouver acts, features performances by Mauvey, Cody Lawless, Nikkaela, Marie Dresselhuis, and Levvi + Fleetwood Huey at the Hollywood Theatre.

THURSDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

FRIDAY: new punk-rock band led by former NoMeansNo member John Wright, Dead Bob, plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Victim’s Family and Invasives.

FRIDAY: L.A. ska-punk/funk-metal band Fishbone, featuring lead vocalist and saxophonist Angelo Moore, plays the Pearl, with guests Bite Me Bambii and Brasser.

A Wonderheads Christmas Carol runs at Massey Theatre

FRIDAY: A Wonderheads Christmas Carol at New Westminster’s Massey Theatre is a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol featuring whimsical puppets and giant masks.
