FRIDAY: new punk-rock band led by former NoMeansNo member John Wright, Dead Bob, plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Victim’s Family and Invasives.

FRIDAY: L.A. ska-punk/funk-metal band Fishbone, featuring lead vocalist and saxophonist Angelo Moore, plays the Pearl, with guests Bite Me Bambii and Brasser.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: A Wonderheads Christmas Carol at New Westminster’s Massey Theatre is a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol featuring whimsical puppets and giant masks.

The Festival of Lights at VanDusen Garden

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden runs until January 5, featuring 15 acres of beautiful gardens adorned with over a million Christmas lights.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol is an uplifting musical based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol set during the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, running until December 24 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Ann Mortifee’s Reflections on Crooked Walking, running until December 22 at the Firehall Arts Centre, is a family musical about four unlikely friends who go in search of a cure for a sleeping sickness that has overtaken their town.

The Bruins are in town

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Boston Bruins in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

SATURDAY: folk-punk singer-songwriter Eugene Ripper and author/historian Aaron Chapman are featured at a Fast Folk Underground show at Tyrant Studios, with guest Carmen White.

SATURDAY: the annual Vancouver Food Bank fundraiser at the Rickshaw Theatre, Keithmas XV, features performances by Rich Hope, the Jolts, Suzie Ungerleider, Elsinore, Elliot C. Way, Scott Smith, Duke & Goldie, La Chinga, and Spank Williams. SOLD OUT.
