I did my first interview with Jason Isbell in July of 2007, while he was touring behind his debut solo album, Sirens of the Ditch.

Three months earlier Isbell had announced that he’d left the Drive-By Truckers, after contributing some killer tunes to albums like Decoration Day, The Dirty South, and A Blessing and a Curse.

So at one point in the conversation I asked him why he left the DBTs, and which albums and songs he was most proud of recording with them.
