FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Parisian Chloé van Soeterstède conducts the Vancouver Symphony and Spanish pianist Javier Perianes in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Saint-Saëns’ fifth and final piano concerto.

Heathers: The Musical at Studio 58
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: performances of the dark comedy Heathers: The Musical, based on the 1988 film about a trio of popular girls who mercilessly rule their high school, running until February 16 at Langara College’s Studio 58.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: performances at the Cultch Historic Theatre until February 23 of Toronto puppeteer Ronnie Burkett’s Wonderful Joe, about a man and his dog who head into the world for one last grand adventure together.

xʷəlməxʷ child at Polygon Gallery
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: xʷəlməxʷ child, running until May 25 at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery, features Manuel Axel Strain‘s figurative paintings, transformed into pictographs and set against photographic murals.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Just for Laughs Vancouver is a comedy festival running from February 13 to 23 at various Vancouver venues, featuring standup comedians such as Roy Wood Jr., Tim Dillon, Margaret Cho, Jerry Seinfeld, and Sugar Sammy. Here’s my interview with Roy Wood Jr. from 2022.
