
Bob Log III plays the Biltmore

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: exhibition of paintings by New York City-based artist Firelei Báez, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, runs until March 16 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
TUESDAY & THURSDAY TO FRIDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, the Oscar-winning documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.

The Habs are in town
TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Montreal Canadiens in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
WEDNESDAY: Scott Smith’s Adventures in Pedal Steel at the Painted Ship is a night of blues, R&B, and gospel music featuring guest artists Krystle Dos Santos, Emmett Jerome, Ian Beatty and Colin Brumelle, Chris Woudstra, and Paul Pigat.
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: xʷəlməxʷ child, running until May 25 at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery, features Manuel Axel Strain‘s figurative paintings, transformed into pictographs and set against photographic murals.

Don Alder plays the Anvil Theatre
THURSDAY: Vancouver acoustic-guitar virtuoso Don Alder, plays New Westminster’s Anvil Theatre, with guests the Jocelyn Pettit Band. Here’s my interview with Don Alder from 2012 and my interview with Jocelyn Pettit from 2021.
THURSDAY: American one-man band Bob Log III plays old Silvertone archtop guitars and wears a helmet wired to a telephone receiver at the Biltmore Cabaret, with guests Caveman and the Banshees.
THURSDAY: American rockers Heart, featuring vocalist Ann Wilson and guitarist-vocalist Nancy Wilson, play the Pacific Coliseum, with guests Squeeze. Here’s my interview with Ann Wilson from 1985.
FRIDAY: day one of Punkstravaganza VIII at the Rickshaw Theatre features the Dreadnoughts with guests the Real McKenzies and Distorted Times.

Crazy Diamonds plays the Rio
FRIDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Ennio, Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore‘s documentary about the career of the hyper-prolific Italian composer Ennio Morricone. In Italian and English with English subtitles.
FRIDAY: the Rogue Folk Club presents Get Back Unplugged, an acoustic tribute to the Beatles, at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.
FRIDAY: Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and activist Bruce Cockburn plays the Centre in Vancouver.
FRIDAY: Vancouver-based Pink Floyd tribute band Crazy Diamonds plays two sets at the Rio Theatre, including a performance of the Wish You Were Here album in its entirety, followed by a selection of iconic Floyd tracks.

Wolf Parade plays the Vogue
FRIDAY: Montreal indie-rock band Wolf Parade plays the Vogue Theatre, with guests Autogramm. SOLD OUT.
