Shane’s Teeth plays the WISE Hall

MONDAY: Pogues tribute band Shane’s Teeth plays a St. Patrick’s Day gig at the WISE Hall, with guests Uncle Pat’s Nephew.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.

TUESDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Ennio, Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore‘s documentary about the career of the hyper-prolific Italian composer Ennio Morricone. In Italian and English with English subtitles.

The Jets are in town

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Winnipeg Jets in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

WEDNESDAY: screening at the Hollywood Theatre of Becoming Led Zeppelin, director Bernard MacMahon’s new documentary about the formation of the legendary British rock band, featuring never-before-seen footage and new interviews with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY: xʷəlməxʷ child, running until May 25 at North Vancouver’s Polygon Gallery, features Manuel Axel Strain‘s figurative paintings, transformed into pictographs and set against photographic murals.

No Other Land screens at the VIFF Centre

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of No Other Land, the Oscar-winning documentary about the realities of Israeli occupation in the State of Palestine’s West Bank. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English, with English subtitles.

FRIDAY: music director Otto Tausk leads the Vancouver Symphony in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, and the world premiere of Vancouver composer Marcus Goddard’s Mountain Visions. Here’s my interview with Otto Tausk from 2021.

FRIDAY: Victoria indie-pop band Current Swell plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guests the Bankes Brothers.

Se7en screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of a 30th anniversary restoration of director David Fincher’s psychological horror-thriller Se7en., starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. “What’s in the box?!”
