That time Joe Satriani told me that ten years of bad-hair days led him to shave his head

By Steve Newton

Back in August of 1997 I did the third of my eight interviews with American guitar wizard Joe Satriani.

Two months earlier he’d released G3: Live in Concert, which saw him performing with fellow Yankee axe masters Steve Vai and Eric Johnson.

The cover of that album showed Satch with a shaved head for the first time, so at one point in the conversation I asked him how it felt to cut all his hair off. Was it liberating?
