Mad Max 2 screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: Vancouver guitar-rockers Day of the Dog play the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Canyon Riders, Pistol Whip the Devil, and DJ J.J. Caithcart.

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director George Miller’s 1981 action epic Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, starring Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky, a heroic loner trying to survive in a postapocalyptic Australian Outback.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: 10-piece Steely Dan tribute band Steelin’ in the Years plays the first of two nights at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios.

Peeping Tom at the Playhouse

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: DanceHouse presents Belgium’s Peeping Tom dance company performing Diptych (The missing door and The lost room) at the Vancouver Playhouse.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” exhibition, running until May 25 at 1 Alexander Street, features over 200 prints, photos, sculptures, installations, and murals by world-famous street artist Banksy.

SATURDAY: Party for the Planet at the Surrey Civic Centre is a free, family-friendly event featuring over 25 local vendors and artisans, cultural sharing, food trucks, and live music on four stages.

Naomi Klein speaks at Chan Centre

SATURDAY: the UBC Centre for Climate Justice and Vancouver Writers Fest present The New Shock Doctrine, an evening with Canadian author and activist Naomi Klein at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Warriors take on the Rochester Nighthawks in a National Lacrosse League quarterfinal playoff game at Rogers Arena.

SUNDAY: the Alain Pérez Trio performs at the Vancouver Playhouse as part of the Maestros of Afro-Cuban Jazz concert series.

Marin Patenaude plays the Pearl

SUNDAY: Driftwood Brewery presents The Grand Ol’ Pearl, featuring performances by Kue Varo & the Only Hopes, Marin Patenaude, Steve Brockley, and Kylie V at the Pearl.
