That time Sarah Harmer told me that she picked up the guitar at 17 to play Neil Young songs

I interviewed Canadian singer-songwriter and environmental activist Sarah Harmer for the second time in October of 2000, two months after the release of her debut solo album, You Were Here.

That disc went platinum in Canada on the strength of singles like “Don’t Get Your Back Up” and “Basement Apt”.

At one point in the conversation I mentioned the part in her bio that states that Neil Young was the main inspiration for her to pick up a guitar as a teenager.
