FRIDAY: the fiddle and cello Celtic-folk duo of Jocelyn Pettit & Ellen Gira performs at a release party for new album Here to Stay at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James, with guitarist Everest Witman. Here’s my interview with Jocelyn Pettit from 2021.

FRIDAY: Brooklyn-based saxophonist-composer Immanuel Wilkins and the Lutosławski Quartet perform two shows at the Western Front on opening night of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. First show SOLD OUT.

Back From the Dead runs at the Shop Theatre

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Renegade Arts Co. presents the world premiere of Back From the Dead, an apocalyptic rock musical with story by composer-producer Jim Buckshon and legendary Vancouver rock critic Tom Harrison, running until June 28 at the Shop Theatre. FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the three-day Dragon Boat Festival at Corcord Pacific Place and False Creek features dragon-boat races, craft vendors, food trucks, kids’ activities, and live music by Tiger Really, the Kuyas, Coastal Wolf PackToddy, Royal Oak, and headliners Lights and Felix Cartal.

SATURDAY: Canadian singer-songwriter Steven Page joins the Vancouver Symphony and music director Kevin Fox at the Orpheum Theatre for a program that includes songs from his former band, the Barenaked Ladies. Here’s the interview with Steven Page from 2022, the last time he played with the VSO.
