Sue Foley plays Vancouver Folk Fest

FRIDAY: all-star band Progject, formed by drummer Jonathan Mover and featuring former Frank Zappa and Joe Satriani guitarist Mike Kenneally, performs ’70s prog-rock tunes by Genesis, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Rush at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guest Travis Larson.
FRIDAY: American indie-rock singer-songwriter Ben Kweller plays tunes from new album Cover the Mirrors at the Biltmore Cabaret, with guest RYMAN.
FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Roger Vadim’s cheesy 1968 sci-fi sex romp Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda as a nubile astronaut tasked with stopping a mad scientist.

Orchard Sky plays Vancouver Folk Fest
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the 48th annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival at Jericho Beach Park features 40 artists from Vancouver and around the world, including Sue Foley, Krystle Dos Santos and Orchard Sky, Speeding West, Rich Hope, Shooglenifty, Blue Moon Marquee, Ruthie Foster, Kris Drever, the Heavy Heavy, the Zawose Queens, and Steve Dawson leading On the Beach: Neil Young Reimagined.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Eastside Arts Festival, running from July 18 to 27 at various East Van locations, brings together local visual artists and musicians and features arts activities, food trucks, beer gardens, and a free outdoor concert July 26 in MacLean Park.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Playland’s ThunderVolt ride
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Playland features midway games, mini-golf, a climbing wall, haunted mansion, food concessions, and over 35 rides and attractions, including the iconic wooden rollercoaster. Playland runs until August 15 on the PNE Grounds, then becomes part of admission to the PNE Fair.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Arts Club Theatre Company presents performances at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage until August 3 of the musical comedy Waitress, about a small-town waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a new life outside of her tumultuous marriage.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: Vice, Dice, & Opium Pipes is a 90-minute walking tour starting at the Vancouver Police Museum & Archives that reveals the hidden histories of crime and corruption in 19th and 20th century Vancouver.

Coast to Coast plays Surrey Fusion Fest
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: the Surrey Fusion Festival is a celebration of music, food, and culture at Holland Park, featuring free performances on eight stages by over 50 acts, including Miss Pooja, Easy Star All-Stars, Geeta Zaildar, Ahi, Josh Bogert, Coast to Coast, Tambura Rasa, the Jocelyn Pettit Band, Uzume Taiko, and Emmett Jerome.
