I did my second interview with Mississippi hill country bluesman R.L. Burnside in December of 2000, four years after the release of A Ass Pocket of Whiskey, the album he recorded with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
That raucous Matador Records disc introduced Burnside to a college-rock fan base and allowed him to straddle the blues and rock markets, so at one point in the conversation I asked him if he’d like to work with Jon Spencer again.
