FRIDAY: Americana/alt-country singer-songwriter from Louisiana, Lucinda Williams, performs tunes from her latest album Stories from a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart at the Vogue Theatre.

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of a 4K restoration of director Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror-drama Possession, starring Isabelle Adjani as a woman who descends into madness as her marriage unravels.

FRIDAY: American bluesman and storyteller Guy Davis performs original material and songs by Muddy Water, Howlin’ Wolf, and Bob Dylan at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Here’s my interview with Guy Davis from 2003.

Steve-O is at the Bell Performing Arts Centre

FRIDAY: stunt performer/Jackass star Steve-O brings his new multimedia comedy show Crash and Burn! to Surrey’s Bell Performing Arts Centre. Content advisory: 19+ years old. Here’s my 2000 review of Jackass 3D, in which Steve-O stole the show.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Vancouver guitar-rock greats 54-40, featuring lead vocalist Neil Osborne, play two nights at the Commodore Ballroom, with guest Kandle. Here’s my interview with Neil Osborne from 2000.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: final three days of the 2025 Vancouver International Film Festival, which features films from around the world, live performances, talks, and industry sessions at various Vancouver venues.

Fright Nights at Playland

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, runs until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Australian contemporary circus company Circa presents Wolf, an acrobatic thrill ride created by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa Ensemble, at the Cultch.

SATURDAY: ’80s new wave/post-punk singer-songwriter Lene Lovich plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with local guests Royal Strays and the Hausplants.

SATURDAY: Sacred Steel gospel-funk band from Miami, the Lee Boys, featuring guitarist-vocalist Alvin Lee and pedal-steel player Dontrail Wright, play Mel Lehan Hall at St. James. Here’s my interview with Alvin Lee from 2003.
