FRIDAY: the edgy Canadian comedy team of Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice bring their Kenny vs. Spenny antics to the Hollywood Theatre.

FRIDAY: rock ‘n’ roll piano player Jason D. Williams plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests the Supersuckers and Billy and the Parole Models.

FRIDAY: the BC Lions take on the Edmonton Elks in Canadian Football League action at BC Place.

Lucinda Williams tribute at Kay Meek

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Canadian guitar great Steve Dawson leads an all-star reimagining of Lucinda Williams’ iconic album, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, at West Vancouver’s Kay Meek Arts Centre.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: the five-day Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival features screenings at Cineplex Cinemas International Village, panels and table reads at Vancouver Film School, parties, networking events, and the VHS Golden Tape Awards.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Australian contemporary circus company Circa presents Wolf, an acrobatic thrill ride created by Yaron Lifschitz and the Circa Ensemble, at the Cultch.

Israel Palestine screens at the VIFF Centre

FRIDAY & SUNDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958-1989, in which filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson weaves together footage to tell the story of the rise of the Israeli state and the Palestinian struggle for self-determination–as seen by Swedish media.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Stage 43 Theatrical Society presents playwright William Goldman’s adaptation of Misery, Stephen King’s novel about a crazed fan who keeps her favourite novelist captive, running until October 25 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods, runs until October 31 on select nights at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).

SUNDAY: Sunday morning screening at the Cinematheque of director James Whale’s campy 1935 horror film Bride of Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester.
