FRIDAY: the 13-hour Horror Movie Marathon at the Cinematheque features a curated grab bag of arthouse horror, with the lineup of films kept secret until they are shown. SOLD OUT.

FRIDAY: Vancouver Grateful Dead tribute band GD/BC plays a Halloween show at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Buddy and the Scarecrow and Scott Smith.

FRIDAY: final night of Fright Nights, which features eight haunted houses, wandering scare artists, over 15 midway rides, and spooky foods at the PNE Grounds (Hastings and Windermere).

Nosferatu at the Fox

FRIDAY: screening at the Fox Cabaret of director F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent German Expressionist vampire film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, with live musical accompaniment by Stephen Hamm Theremin Man.

FRIDAY AND/OR SATURDAY: go to a local sports bar or pub and watch the Toronto Blue Jays defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the 2025 World Series.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: local percussionist Sal Ferreras and his Latin Jazz Sextet join vocalist Adonis Puentes and the Vancouver Symphony in Latin Nights at the Orpheum Theatre. Here’s my interview with Sal Ferreras from 2021.

Rocky Horror at the Rio

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: late-night 50th anniversary screening at the Rio Theatre of director Jim Sharman’s campy musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tim Curry as mad scientist and sweet transvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter. Here’s my interview with Tim Curry from 1990.

SATURDAY: the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret‘s annual Parade of Lost Souls is an evening of performance, live music, art, DJs, and after-parties at various East Vancouver locations.

SATURDAY: local clown-faced Iron Maiden tribute band Powerclown plays the Waldorf, with guests the Gnar Gnars and Stinkhorn.

The Stampeders are in town

SATURDAY: the BC Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League western semi-final game at BC Place.
