Bif Naked plays the Rio

MONDAY: L.A. alt-rockers Dream Syndicate perform their album Medicine Show in its entirety at the Rickshaw Theatre.

TUESDAY: Canadian rock ‘n’ roller Bif Naked performs an acoustic set preceded by a screening of director Pollyanna Hardwicke-Brown‘s new documentary about her at the Rio Theatre.

WEDNESDAY: Australian psych-rock band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets plays tunes from new album Pogo Rodeo at the Commodore Ballroom.

The Blackhawks are in town

WEDNESDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Chicago Blackhawks in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

THURSDAY: American comic Maria Bamford performs two shows of standup comedy at the Rio Theatre. Here’s my interview with Maria Bamford from 2022.

THURSDAY: the Tony Wilson Quartet–composed of guitarist Wilson, saxophonist Dave Say, bassist André Lachance, and drummer Nino DiPasquale–perform tunes by Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, and Bill Evans at Frankie’s Jazz.

The Killer screens at the Cinematheque

THURSDAY: screening at the Cinematheque of director John Woo’s super-stylized 1989 action flick The Killer, starring Chow Yun-fat. In Cantonese with English subtitles.

FRIDAY: Pennsylvania emo/math-rock quartet Algernon Cadwallader plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Lake and First Day Back.

Crobot plays the Waldorf
