
The Goldeneyes play Ottawa

TUESDAY: the Vancouver Goldeneyes take on the Ottawa Charge in Professional Women’s Hockey League action at the Pacific Coliseum.
WEDNESDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of I Am Not Your Negro director Raoul Peck‘s documentary Orwell: 2+2=5, which surveys the 1984 author’s final years to understand how a man shaped by poverty, imperialism, and war penned a warning the world has yet to heed.
THURSDAY: night four of the Elevate Music Project features performances at the Biltmore Cabaret by emerging local acts Tasavoor, Days of Lavender, Obembesound, Zach Brannon, Hopeslide, and Josephine.

Wild at Heart screens at the Cinematheque
THURSDAY: screening at the Cinematheque of Wild at Heart, writer-director David Lynch‘s 1990 neo-noir black-comedy crime film, based on the 1989 novel by Barry Gifford.
THURSDAY: For Palestine, With Love is an evening of music in solidarity with the people of Gaza, featuring performances at the Waterfront Theatre by the Mohamed Assani Quartet, Ramani x Franche-Nolan, and Syrian oud player and singer Mouhannad El E’ek.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: the B3 Kings–composed of Hammond B3 player Chris Gestrin, guitarist Bill Coon, saxophonist Cory Weeds, and vocalist-drummer Denzal Sinclaire–plays two nights at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.

Elf screens at the Orpheum
FRIDAY: the Vancouver Symphony performs the score of Elf live at the Orpheum Theatre, along to a screening of director Jon Favreau‘s 2003 Christmas comedy, starring Will Ferrell.
FRIDAY: Moshin’ Around the Christmas Tree at the Cobalt is a fundraiser for the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, featuring local punk bands Computer, Infidelity, and Space Crash Echoes.
FRIDAY: Vancouver bands Skaboom and Combine the Victorious play a coheadlining show at the Fox Cabaret.

The Soweto Gospel Choir performs at Chan Centre
FRIDAY: the Soweto Gospel Choir performs a joyful program of South African freedom songs and traditional spirituals, along with classics from Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Kate Bush, and Leonard Cohen, at the Chan Centre.
