That time Steve Vai told me that he wouldn’t want to play guitar like Yngwie Malmsteen
By Steve Newton
I interviewed guitar wizard Steve Vai for the third time back in September of 2003, when he was about to start a G3 Tour with Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen.
At one point in the conversation I asked Vai if Malmsteen was as pioneering as they say as far as technique goes, and he was adamant that he was.
Then I asked him if he ever tried to play classical the way that Yngwie does, and he honestly replied “No, I don’t like it.”
