FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: Punkstravaganza at the Rickshaw Theatre features performances by Vancouver punk-rockers the Dreadnoughts, with guests Los Furios and Space Chimp (Fri.) and Balkan Shmalkan and Dirty Artichokes (Sat.)

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: running until March 28 at the Paul Kyle Gallery is The Collaborators, a pivotal retrospective of Canadian documentarian Nettie Wild, tracing her evolution from film to public installation. Special events include a screening and discussion on March 15 of Wild’s 1993 film Blockade.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until April 29 at the DomePink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring the mindblowing music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.

FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: IMAX screenings at various Vancouver theatres of director Baz Luhrmann‘s new documentary EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, featuring never-before-seen footage and newly unearthed recordings of the King.

An American Friend screens at VIFF Centre

SATURDAY: as part of its Film Studies Series, the VIFF Centre presents a morning screening of director Wim Wenders’ 1977 neo-noir thriller An American Friend, starring Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz.

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Goldeneyes take on the Ottawa Charge in Professional Women’s Hockey League action at the Pacific Coliseum.

SATURDAY: the Girls to the Front Festival at the Pearl is a punk and alt-rock show spotlighting female, non-binary, and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists, with performances by PissWAIT//LESSDown the LeesJISEIGadflyCherry PickTall MaryCrimson FuneralSemi, and Ghost Teeth, with partial proceeds to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter.

The Kraken is in town

SATURDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Seattle Kraken in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAYGeorge Thorogood & the Destroyers, the blues-rock combo from Delaware (“Bad to the Bone”), plays two nights at Great Canadian Casino Vancouver. Here’s my interview with George Thorogood from 2014.

SUNDAY: the Rio Theatre‘s annual Oscar party features the live televised broadcast of the 98th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien.
