Well, hey–good things come in pairs, I suppose. No sooner had I finished blogging about the possibility of the Foo Fighters playing some Van Halen in Vancouver tomorrow than I came across this newly uploaded video of VH performing the Kinks’ “All Day and All Of the Night” live at the Pasadena Civic Centre on November 19, 1976.
I realize it’s a very rough recording, but holy snappin’ arseholes could Eddie play! I mean, he still can, but Christ on a cracker was he smokin’ in the old days too.
The never-before-heard soundboard recording was posted by Van Halen scholar and all-around good guy Greg Renoff, who’s got a book on the band coming out soon. It’s called Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal.
You should probly get it.
