I was interviewing Todd Kerns a couple weeks ago in advance of the Age of Electric show at the Commodore tonight (April 30), and had an evil thought.
Since Kerns is well known as the bassist for Slash, just how far would he go to steal the coveted bass gig in Guns N’ Roses from its rightful owner, Duff McKagan?
Turns out he’s not about to pull a Tonya Harding on the blonde rocker from Seattle, even if he were next in line for the job.
“I’m actually a massive supporter of Duff,” said Kerns on the phone from his parents’ place in the Vancouver suburb of Coquitlam. “You know I saw them in Vegas. I saw the first official arena show, and it was awesome. ‘Cause I know Duff, I know Slash, I know Dizzy, I know Richard [Fortus]–the other guitar player–so it’s kinda like, getting to see these guys do this show was very sort of surreal.
“I’d never seen the original Guns N’ Roses back in the day,” he added. “So for me it was kinda like… of course Axl’s in a chair, ’cause he broke his foot, but it was great! It was really cool to see, it was really cool to hear the music, and really cool to see those guys together, you know.”
It’s also gonna be really cool to see the reunited Age of Electric guys together in Vancouver tonight. Get your last-minute tickets quick!
