This is probly the last audio excerpt I’ll post from my 2007 interview with legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. Maybe one day I’ll just post the whole damn conversation–and the one from 1984 as well.
You’ll have to keep checking back to find out, I suppose.
Anyway, this excerpt I thought was quite interesting. I started off telling Iommi how much I loved one of the bands he was touring with at the time, Megadeth, and then I mentioned the other band on the bill, Down, which led to talk of Pantera.
When I asked him if the onstage murder of Dimebag Darrell made him concerned about his own safety in concert, the conversation turned to one particularly bizarre incident involving a bloody cross on Black Sabbath’s dressing-room door and a “loon” with a dagger trying to get at him.
