Few guitar players in history are more deserving of recognition than Link Wray, the inventor of the raunchy riff, but you wouldn’t know it from the actions of those dingbats down at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Even though they nominated him back in 2013, he still hasn’t been inducted.
Then again, neither have Johnny Winter or Rory Gallagher.
But that won’t stop me from trying to spread the word about the original “Rumbler”, who I was lucky enough to have interviewed before his passing in 2005 at the age of 76.
Back in June of ’97 he was touring North America, and I called him up at his hotel in Dallas. He sounded full of piss and vinegar, raving about his show in Houston the night before.
