During my 40 years of writing about music, I’ve been extremely fortunate, especially when it comes to interviewing guitar players.
I’ve been able to interview some of the world’s greatest guitarists several times over, including amazing players like Joe Satriani (eight times), Warren Haynes (six times), Buddy Guy (five times), and Dickey Betts (four times).
There’s also quite a few legendary pickers that I’ve only managed to interview once.
Gary Moore and Albert King are two of them.
My interviews with Moore and King are among my most prized conversations, because I was–and still am–absolutely in awe of their talent and how they made their names in rock and blues history, respectively.
When I interviewed Albert King in August of 1990, two years before his death at age 69, I asked him if Gary Moore had played on his upcoming album, knowing that King had guested on Moore’s Still Got the Blues album, released five months earlier.
