MONDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of the fifth entry in the Evil Dead film franchise, writer-director Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise.

TUESDAY: American comedian and actress Maria Bamford performs two standup shows at the Rio Theatre. First show SOLD OUT.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Arts Club Theatre Company presents the musical Million Dollar Quartet— which depicts the famed 1956 jam session between Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins–at the Granville Island Stage.

Rumble screens at the VIFF Centre

TUESDAY: as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, screening at the VIFF Centre of Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, followed by a conversation with Indigenous singer-songwriter, activist, and storyteller Pura Fé.

TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Arts Club Theatre Company presents Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, about the pop phenomenon’s rise to stardom, running to August 6 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage. You might feel the earth move under your feet.

WEDNESDAY: Canadian hard-rock hitmakers Nickelback play Rogers Arena, with guests Brantley Gilbert and Josh Ross. Love Nickelback or hate ’em, you gotta admit: their drummer kicks ass!

Bif Naked plays the Rickshaw

THURSDAY: Vancouver rocker Bif Naked plays the Rickshaw Theatre, celebrating the 25th anniversary of her album I Bificus, with guests the Pack A.D. and Ché Aimee Dorval. Rock on ladies!

THURSDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of director John Carpenter’s 1981 action flick Escape From New York as part of the Back to the 80s film series.

FRIDAY: Comedy Here Often?‘s Summer Showcase at 604 Studios features headliner Sophia Johnson, with guests Rory Dunn, George Ridgen, and Rachel Schaefer.
