MONDAY: the Vancouver Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers in National Hockey League action at Rogers Arena.
MONDAY: the Pacific Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Society presents a Bluegrass Jam at the ANZA Club.
MONDAY: screening at the Rio Theatre of director David Fincher‘s 1999 neo-noir drama Fight Club, based on the 1996 novel by Chuck Palahniuk, and starring Brad Pitt and Ed Norton.

Lumiere Festival is downtown
MONDAY: final day of the Lumiere Festival , which features over 30 illuminated artworks and light-based projections, accompanied by live performances, at various downtown Vancouver locations.
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY: screenings at the VIFF Centre of Se7en and Fight Club director David Fincher’s new thriller, The Killer, about a hitman who finds himself on the receiving end of a termination contract.
MONDAY & THURSDAY: screenings at the Cinematheque of director Ryszard Bugajski’s uncompromising 1991 thriller Clearcut, starring Graham Greene as militant Indigenous activist Arthur.
MONDAY TO FRIDAY: the 27th edition of the Vancouver Asian Film Festival features both emerging and established Asian Canadian and Asian American writers, producers, and directors showcasing their latest work. Running until November 11 at various Vancouver locations.

HYPROV is at the Vogue
TUESDAY: comedian Colin Mochrie and hypnotist Asad Mecci combine their talents for HYPROV, in which volunteers from the audience are hypnotized and become part of the show, at the Vogue Theatre.
TUESDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of Italian writer-director Dario Argento‘s 1987 giallo slasher film Opera, about a young soprano who becomes involved in a series of murders being committed by a masked assailant inside an opera house.
TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: Cirque du Soleil presents its production of Kooza, a 125-minute acrobatics/circus show exploring themes of fear, identity, recognition, and power. Running until December 31 under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place.

Elf: The Musical runs at the Stanley
TUESDAY TO FRIDAY: the Arts Club Theatre Company presents Elf: The Musical, based on the 2003 Christmas comedy film Elf and starring Andrew McNee as Buddy the Elf. Running until December 31 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.
WEDNESDAY: American glam-rockers from the ’70s, Kiss, featuring original members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, play Rogers Arena, with guests Crown Lands and Amber Wild. Here’s my interview with Gene Simmons from 1992.
THURSDAY: Brooklyn indie-rock quartet Beach Fossils plays the Pearl, with guests Turnover from Virginia Beach.
THURSDAY: former Police guitarist Andy Summers performs a show at the Vancouver Playhouse where he will play guitar and improvise to several sequences of his photography shot worldwide, read excerpts from his book of short stories, and share insights on his music and photography.

Destroyer plays the Commodore
THURSDAY: Vancouver indie-rock band Destroyer, fronted by founding member Dan Bejar, plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guests Frog Eyes from Victoria.
THURSDAY: Swedish garage-rockers The Hives play tunes from their latest album The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons at the Rickshaw Theatre, with guest Kate Clover. SOLD OUT.
FRIDAY: American rapper Travis Scott plays Rogers Arena on his Circus Maximus Tour, performing material from his latest album Utopia. SOLD OUT.
FRIDAY: Newfoundland folk quartet Rum Ragged performs a tribute to Margaret Sargent-McTaggart at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James, with guests Twin Embers. SOLD OUT.
FRIDAY: Seattle-based progressive funk, psych-rock and modern Afro-beat band Polyrhythmics plays the WISE Hall, with guests Idle Moon.

Yeol Eum Son performs at the Orpheum
FRIDAY: maestro Otto Tausk conducts the Vancouver Symphony in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony and sees South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20.
