FRIDAY: Seattle-based progressive funk, psych-rock and modern Afro-beat band Polyrhythmics plays the WISE Hall, with guests Idle Moon.
FRIDAY: American rapper Travis Scott plays Rogers Arena on his Circus Maximus Tour, performing material from his latest album Utopia. SOLD OUT.
Yeol Eum Son plays the Orpheum
FRIDAY: maestro Otto Tausk conducts the Vancouver Symphony in a program at the Orpheum Theatre that includes Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony and sees South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: the 27th edition of the Vancouver Asian Film Festival features both emerging and established Asian Canadian and Asian American writers, producers, and directors showcasing their latest work. Running until November 11 at various Vancouver locations.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Cirque du Soleil presents its production of Kooza, a 125-minute acrobatics/circus show exploring themes of fear, identity, recognition, and power. Running until December 31 under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Emily Carr: A Room of Her Own at the Vancouver Art Gallery features approximately 25 works drawn from the gallery’s Emily Carr Collection and maps key biographical moments in Carr’s practice.
Elf: The Musical runs at the Stanley
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Arts Club Theatre Company presents Elf: The Musical, based on the 2003 Christmas comedy film Elf and starring Andrew McNee as Buddy the Elf. Running until December 31 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.
SATURDAY: Toronto roots-r0ck band the Skydiggers, featuring singer Andy Maize and lead guitarist Josh Finlayson, plays the WISE Hall. SOLD OUT.
SATURDAY: horn-driven, percussion-fueled eight-piece R&B/funk band Five Alarm Funk plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guests Brass Camel.
SATURDAY: guitarists from Spain and Vancouver, Twanguero & Paul Pigat, hook up to perform a mix of rockabilly, flamenco, country blues, tango, jazz, and ragtime at Mel Lehan Hall at St. James. Here’s my interview with Paul Pigat from 2021.

SUNDAY: Toronto pop-rock quartet The Beaches plays tunes from new album Blame My Ex at the Orpheum Theatre, with guests Beach Weather.
SUNDAY: the City of Vancouver‘s Remembrance Day Service at Victory Square includes ceremony includes the “Last Post”, the “Lament”, the fly-past, the change of the guard, the wreath-laying, the parade of veterans, military units, cadets, police, brass bands, and pipes and drums.
The Evil Dead Trilogy screens at the Rio
